The Hafrahvammagljúfur canyon itself is magnificent, one of the greatest canyons in Iceland. Up till now it hasn't been much used as a travel destination and that fact has been used by those who want to build the dam. Still many people are realising the potential of this beautyful area as a National Park. Unfortunately it may be to late as road construction is already begun (sept 2002).
